8. Bring a box of tissues (2 pts). We’re getting into the cold season and my supply of tissues is already suffering from leaky noses. (Yes, we could get the cheap version of tissues from the school, but I’d rather us at least have fluffy tissues for our poor noses.)

9. Draw a poster (larger than 8 ½ X 11) depicting of one of the 4 cycles. (Water cycle = 3 pts, Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus cycles = 5 pts) It must be neat, colorful, fully explain the cycle, and be something I can easily store. (Ie. Use a half sheet of posterboard). It cannot be on normal printer/copier paper, but it can be on cardstock paper. The point is to make it sturdy enough to keep around.

5. Refer to blog prompt 3 and design a short experiment for Jake to test his hypothesis.

Remember to restate the hypothesis, the independent variable, the dependent variable, the constants, the controls, and so forth. (3 pts)

6. Bring in a box of Teddy Grahams. (2 pts ) alternatively, you may bring in a bag of animal crackers

Note: There will be Very Few to NO Extra Credit given after the Mid-marking period proficiencies are given.

3. Since no one did the article one. I’m opening that one for another week (see EC 1 for details). I highly, highly recommend everyone take advantage of this opportunity, given the general test results.

4. Bring in 1 package of goldfish crackers (pepperidge farms cheddar; the normal sized bag-like package, nothing crazy-expensive) . I will give you one point per package to a total of 2 pts on your last test grade. Goldfish due FRIDAY, I hope to use them in a lab next week.

Extra Credit Opportunities 1 and 2

1. Find a biology-related newspaper or magazine article that deals with some ethical issue. Ie. Abortion, cloning, stem cell research – these are the most common, but certainly not the limits.

Max Possible points = 3 (2 if you want to use the article I have); to get 3 pts it’d better be gorgeous as well as well thought out and worded

Summarize the article in one paragraph.

Describe how it relates to biology. What specific field of study is involved?

Write a 1-3 paragraph reaction to the article. The more thorough, the more likely you will earn the extra credit points. Pick a side on the issue involved and defend it.

Cite your sources – where the article came from, background research, etc.
